Chanting with Yoga Family

Posted by Ananda Yoga Center on August 16, 2015 at 1:50 AM Comments comments (0)

If your looking for a family atmosphere, smiley faces, lots of yoga and chanting with good food then this is the place. Everyone is welcoming and it's a great spot for walking in the villages when you have some free time. Raj and Manush are great yoga teachers and are always there to help. They took us on some lovely day trips around the mountains. Holy festival was thoroughly enjoyed by us and all the children, we had so much fun! C

Wow - what a beautiful little find! Set in the hills above Kathmandu Ananda yoga centre has been a truly amazing and relaxing experience so far!

I've been here for a week now and I'm not sure when I will leave!!! Shivgiri, Manoj & Raj are amazingly inspirational teachers...I couldn't ask for more!

There's a great balance of good Yoga classes, chanting, meditation, yoga nidra, spiritual discussion and some free time...Having traveled India for the last six months and visiting many Ashrams I can honestly say the food is the best I've had yet - absolutely delicious home cooked food fresh and organic straight from the garden!!!

The room is perfect for what I need...Nice and simple nothing to fancy but an amazing view!

Can't recommend enough!!!

I've stayed here for a month so far away from home and your kindness made me feel as if it's warmth surrounded me all the way and I don't only mean the beautiful, hearty meals!

You gave me moments I will always keep in my mind and heart, fuel for my further practice and inspiration to guide my further steps. ThankYou!! I will do my best to share all the wisdom, compassion and fun that I experienced here. Already now I know there will be a bit of Ananda in all my future doings. May all the forces of any world always be on your side.

"beautiful people & location - perfect place to learn about yoga!"

Posted by Ananda Yoga Center on October 16, 2014 at 2:55 AM Comments comments (0)

Ananda Yoga Center is a beautiful place to experience all aspects of the yogic lifestyle beginning with chanting at sunrise, followed by cleansing practices, asana, pranayama, karma yoga, and so forth… Shivagiri Guru teaches his guests how to apply yoga principles to better their life. I can't imagine a more perfect setting than this ashram looking out over Kathmandu Valley in the Himalayas.

Shivagiri Guru has a wonderful family that lives at the ashram - offering the comfort of a homestay and a deeper understanding of Nepali culture. The women prepared delicious, authentic Nepali dishes for every meal. I also had a private bedroom and attached bathroom with a view of the mountains.

His son, Manoj and neighbor, Raj were the two yoga teachers that lead the daily asana and pranayama classes. They were excellent teachers and paid specific attention to each student's needs. I had completed my 200-Hr Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training in the US prior to visiting and really enjoyed learning new postures and techniques from the Satyananda style of yoga they teach here. They were also amazing people to get to know outside of class and had me laughing to tears on many occasions!

I left this experience on such a high note - I would recommend it for anyone interested in learning more about yoga or just doing something positive for themselves! These are beautiful people that I'm looking forward to visiting again one day.

Quiet and comfortable atmosphere , simple but effective yoga taught by excellent teachers who are flexible and fun and adjust the class for all levels. The food was amazing and the accommodation was basic but comfortable and clean. No extra frills for those who are looking for spiritual development and enhancing their yogic practice and knowledge

My expirience in Ananda Yoga Center Kathmandu Nepal

I would like to tell you about my experience in the yoga teachers training in this center. Everybody is searching for a place to learn yoga, some of us want to have some kind of certificate to give yoga classe, and all of that is so good, but actually not everybody knows what is really yoga...are we just looking for asanas? Are we just looking for some superficial knowledge of yoga.

Soooo thats why I think is so important to talk about my expirence, Ananda Yoga Center is a REAL yoga center, you can lear so. Any things about the yoga path that asanas are not the most important thing.

So, fist, if you are looking for a place to do the common asanas you can find in books and magazines that looks sooo spectacular...well, you are not going to find it here, BUT if you are looking for a place to discover what is the real meaning of yoga then this is the place.

We start the day with chantings, no matter if you are religious or not, chanting opens you heart, then is the neti!!! It is so an experience, cleaning my nose and my stomach and intestines!!, so amazing!! You feel so good.

Then the asana class, it follows the bihar school and you can learn the grounds and the preliminaries of the asanas, they teach you pranayama, mudras and bandhas in the same class!!

Then yoga nidra! You have to try that, savasana with all the scientific explanation, and its better if you are doing the teachers trainnig course because they sell you some extraordinary books that explains you everything you can know about yoga.

About the accomodation for me it was a very good experience and the nepali food is so good.

So, if you want to live a good experience in a very friendly environment you have to try this one.

"The perfect place to find happiness"

Posted by Ananda Yoga Center on October 16, 2014 at 2:45 AM Comments comments (0)

I stayed at Ananda Yoga Center for 5 weeks, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I truly recommend this place, if you need some time to find Nepal to find peace and harmony.. My time at the Yoga Center has been one of the happiest times in my life so far, filled with interesting classes, both yoga and meditation, taught by very inspiring people. During my stay I fell in love with the people here and their way of living. I haven't laughed this much in one month since forever, but at the same time I have been moved to tears many times from the openness and love these people show their guests. I feel blessed that I was able to stay here for that long, and I will come back one day. The center gave me exactly what I needed and was looking for; peace of mind, and a healthier body. I recommend everyone to go here!

"Authentic Nepali Yoga Experience"

Posted by Ananda Yoga Center on October 16, 2014 at 2:40 AM Comments comments (0)

I spent one month at Ananda Yoga Center in January 2014 completing a residential teacher training course. I was already certified as a teacher in America and was looking to expand my personal practice. I wasn't interested in a touristy, spa-like center but was looking for something more traditional and authentic. I found that experience with Sivagiri at Ananda. By the end of one month, I had learned many new partner yoga asanas, was able to teach yoga nidra, had been taught how to play several chants on the harmonium, and was able to cook multiple Nepali dishes. Sivagiri's extended family are all involved in the center. Several have spent many years in India studying Satyananda Yoga. Raj is a very knowledgeable, hands-on asana instructor. Everyone is very experienced at mantra/chanting. And the veg meals are always fresh and delicious!

Upon completion of my course, Sivagiri invited me to accompany him and several of his Kathmandu yoga friends to the Bihar School of Yoga in Munger, India for a four day program. I would never have had this opportunity if not for my time at Ananda. Morning mantra and evening kirtan at Ananda prepared me to participate in the chanting while at Bihar. And I felt very comfortable overall with the Satyananda philosophy.

I had a great overall experience with Ananda, but I can understand how it might not be for everyone. It would definitely help your experience if you already have an understanding of yoga and are a motivated, self-starter. Also, some westerners might find the amenities very simple - the rooms can be cold during the winter, the power is off many hours a day (like all of Nepal), the water pressure could be stronger, and the wi-fi is finicky.

I am again visiting Ananda right now and it feels good to be welcomed back home by close friends.

"A Satyananda Yoga Ashram where you go to restore and rejuvenate."

I spent 4 weeks at Ananda Yoga Centre doing the Yoga Teacher Training. The accommodation is modest but very adequate. Located about 1 hour from Kathmandu City, situated far enough away to be away from traffic and pollution and able to enjoy the fresh air.

Lovely vegetarian food provided every day. The daily routine includes Yoga 2x's a day, daily yoga Nidra (deep relaxation) and Kiritan (singing) nightly.

I recommend this place for a restorative experience.

Excellent value for money.

Gorgeous,Nestled in Kathmandu

It is my first day at Ananda and can honestly say that this is the yoga retreat I have been looking for since my last Ashram visit 17 years ago.
If you want fancy lodgings and all the frills; then this isn't for you. An ashram is not a luxury hotel it is a place to balance your mind, body and soul.
The setting of Ananda is just gorgeous, nestled in the Kathmandu valley hills. The schedule is exactly what I was after with Yoga, Chanting, Meditation and the most DELICIOUS food cooked by Shivgiri's wonderful family.
